Give Thanks:

  • Thankful to see visitors trickle in this month to Jubilee. A couple came from off the street not knowing anyone at our church, but most came from word of mouth through relationships we have in the community.
  • I am thankful also to see some from our congregation join us in reaching out to the neighborhood. We continue to have a ministry to the tent city in the CD, we have started a women’s dance class on a monthly basis, and we are building soapbox cars this month and the next for youth that have seen too much violence in their neighborhood as of late.

Trust God:

  • A big concern is that after careful reflection, the Indonesian population of our church is likely leaving Jubilee. The reasons for the departure are for missional and philosophical reasons. Over the past 11 months, folks that I have been reaching in the Central District come to the Sunday service and feel overwhelmed by the Indonesian population, so they leave; while Indonesian families and students come to Sunday worship and have a hard time with a non-Indonesian service and pastor. For these reasons the Indonesian leadership of Jubilee is strongly considering a departure in order to best further the mission of both “sides” of the congregation. I definitely see the reasoning behind this decision, (and feel it acutely), but I also see great benefit in us trying to “work it out” cross-culturally. Please pray for Jubilee. Pray for the folks that are aware of a possible transition and are in strong disagreement; pray for the two missions of Jubilee; and pray for all of us, for peace and strength regardless of the decision.

Prayer Requests:

  • Lord, Jubilee is your church–not ours. We humbly come before you to lead your people, shepherd us, and have mercy on us. We know you have not abandoned you church–in Seattle, the Pacific Northwest, the U.S., and the World–so please rule and reign in our lives individually and corporately.
  • Lord we do pray that the Gospel might take root in the hearts of many Indonesian people as they sojourn here to Seattle and are looking for a sense of belonging and spiritual growth. May you use the Indonesian brothers from Jubilee to minister and bear fruit among the lives of our friends from Indo.
  • Lord, we do pray that your Gospel will take root in the lives of many in the Central District neighborhood. We pray that you might use the believers at Jubilee to patiently and vigorously labor in a context fraught with racial, socioeconomic, and systemic divisions. Be with your people O Lord, and give wisdom to the leadership of Jubilee over a substantial decision that lies before them. In Christ’s Name, Amen.
